Move away from the western guns, travel towards eastern suns
…somewhere between Rishikesh and Varanasi
As train tracks are left in our wake and Bonobo’s beats blast into my brain, I try to come to grips with the fact that there are 6 hours left on this ride, and yet there is no end in sight. A 6 hour glimpse of Varanasi and then another night train to get us close, but not there…yet. A novel sense of intuition hints that we approach a point of inflexion in the journey, a shift in the axis of existence. It might simply be that I’m reading too much into a horoscope read to me by a random traveler at a fly-infested balcony overlooking the Ganges while I sipped some chai. It was something along the lines of me becoming enlightened in a few days time. But I’m not buying it, although I continue bragging about it.
An event horizon is indeed approaching. This 52-hour journey culminates in Kathmandu, Nepal to attend a month-long Buddhist retreat in Kopan Monastery. These are the days to come…
